Merry Christmas!

We had a wonderful Christmas. Betsy was so excited all day. First thing in the morning when she saw all of her gifts she sort of stood back and looked at them and seemed a bit nervous, but this didn't last long--she soon jumped right in and started playing. B received so many wonderful gifts and she is having a blast playing with them. Leading up to the big day we went to Celebration in the Oaks with the Saunders family, had a great dinner at Bee's, the Bourgeois family party, a cookie decorating party with Marme and the sisters, and a wonderful Christmas Eve in Vacherie. On Christmas day we had breakfast over here with Marme, the sisters, and the boys then we went to Jama's and Pa's for lunch then Bee and Papa Vic came over then to Marme's for dinner. Yesterday we stayed in all day and rested and played. I received an awesome new camera for Christmas so I have tons of pics to upload once I figure out how to do it--I know it's probably not that hard, but I'm still wiped out from Christmas. I'll upload my pre-Christmas pics very soon! I had my 5 month checkup today and everything is going very well--my ultrasound is next Wednesday--so exciting!

B's latest trick is to say "I Betsy" to other children when she first sees them--it sounds more like "I Bet--eeeeee." She said it to Charlie several times last Sunday and to Lauren last week.

Great News

We went to see Dr. Warren on Tuesday and he said that her leg is really improving and he's really happy with the progress. At first she wouldn't show off her walking skills for him, but eventually she walked for him and then walked around the room for the rest of her appointment. B was still pretty congested so we stayed home the rest of the day. Yesterday I felt sick so we stayed in. Today we had B's 15 month checkup with Uncle Tommy--she's 21 lbs., 8 oz. and 30.5 inchese--still around the 50th percentile. We stopped at Krista's on the way home to give Lauren and Ryan their Christmas presents and they gave B a cool corn popper push toy--she loves the one at the Parenting Center so she was thrilled. We decided to skip playgroup at the Parenting Center b/c B woke up from her nap and was congested and coughing a bit--I didn't want to get the other babies sick. It's pouring down rain and hot...again. We're going to Celebration in the Oaks tomorrow night so hopefully the rain stops and B is feeling good.

Christmas is Coming

It's freezing outside and I love it--last week it was way too hot. My poor little boo has a cold. She woke up with a runny nose on Saturday and as of yesterday she's coughing and sneezing. We've been hanging out at home today and play with her favorite new toy--a pretend food set from Georgia. We have been playing with it all weekend. B is also really into hearing books read over and over again--she's loving all of her Christmas books. She likes pointing out the Santa Claus and Christmas cookies in each book. B loves Cookie Monster and saying cook-cook whenever she sees a cookie or anything that looks like a cookie--she kept pawing at Aunt Attie's necklace yesterday and saying "cook-cook" because the large, chunky beads resembled cookies. The other day B was pointing near her tummy while I was changing her and kept saying "cook, cook" and I thought maybe she wanted a cookie, but she was referring to Cookie Monster on her diaper.

Here's a rundown of the rest of last week.

On Tuesday we went to the Parenting Center and met Evelyn, Georgia, Ticia, and Will. We thought it would be fun to take the kids to Kyoto for lunch--huge mistake. The kids were loud and unhappy the whole time. I'm sure everyone in there wanted to kill us. B did enjoy the vegetable tempura, though. B went to Marme's in the afternoon and had a blast. Marme has sung a lullaby to us since we were little called 'Na no nee no." B holds her stuffed animals and rocks them and sings it to them. She has really been loving on her toys a lot lately.

On Wednesday we went to Jessica's house to play with Reed, Travis, Lauren, and Ryan. Since B is walking she can keep up with them more than she used to. At one point B was sitting in the corner of the living room and being very quiet. I thought she was playing with Elmo--nope, she was eating dog food. She was very mad when I took it away--she had dog food breath--it was so gross! B had her favorite for lunch--pizza (or as she calls it "pizza, pizza, pizza, pizza pie.")

On Thursday we hosted the playgroup holiday party. The babies looked so precious in their Christmas outfits, but it was impossible to take a picture of all of them together. I made cupcakes for the party and B was fixated on them. After I made them she kept pointing to them and saying "cu-cay"--later she sat in the kitchen pointing to the counter and crying and repeating "cu-cay" over and over again. I gave her a pre-party cupcake without icing and she loved it. The kids are growing up so fast and had a great time at their party.

On Friday we got almost all of our Christmas shopping done. Papa Vic picked B up in the afternoon and they went to Bee's then to Nacho Mama's--B's favorite. Peter and I went to Kyoto. Papa Vic and Bee said that Betsy was so good and ate everything in sight. B even passed Bee Papa Vic's cell phone on command. When they brought B home we all went downstairs and watched her walk around and pretend like she was going to give them Papa V's cell phone, but then she'd giggle and run away. She also danced and tapped her foot and smiled when B would call Papa Vic's cell phone--she loved the ringtone.

On Saturday we went to a family Christmas party. B was a hit and she loved eating chocolate chip cookies with Papa Vic and Bee. There was a Santa Claus there and when we approached him B freaked. I hope that her Santa anxiety goes away by next Christmas.

On Sunday we had lots of visitors--Katie, Peter, Lola, Beau, Attie, and Papa Vic. B loved the attention and cried when they left. P, B, and I went to lunch at Lebanon's--yum. Then we bought a couple more Christmas presents.

B has 2 new animal sounds--horse and cat. Her cat sound is so funny--she says "Me-nowwwwwwwww!" B has started to scowl when she gets mad. I have to capture it with my camera--she looks so funny. When B wants something opened she says "opp opp." I've been trying to get her to add please to the end of it, and I've been pretty unsuccessful until one day last week when she handed me a book and said "opp opp, peez." I was so proud! B is a dancing maniac lately--she shakes her booty and claps and wiggles around. B has been pointing at random people in books and photos and saying "mama" so I've started pointing to myself and saying "I'm Mama." So now B walks around pointing to herself and saying "I'm Mama." It's very cute.

Here are a couple of pics of the downstairs--almost done!

Monday

B is obsessed with her Christmas books and we read them many, many times each day. She loves one of the books that has pictures of animals that were at the birth of Jesus and she can now tell us what the dove, chicken, cow, rooster, and sheep say.

This morning we went to Music Class then to Babies R Us to buy a baby gate for the stairwell. B fell asleep while we were there so I walked around for an hour. I found a crib that converts to a toddler bed so I think that may solve our bed dilemma--I didn't want to push B into sleeping in a toddler bed if she wasn't ready when the baby came. So now the new baby will sleep in the new crib until B is ready for a toddler bed and then we'll switch. B and I had lunch at Siamese--it was our first time having lunch alone at a restaurant. It was a little bit tricky, but we had fun. B ate some scrambled egg and a couple of ears of baby corn. She also sucked on the lemon wedge from my water.

Here's a pic of B from Saturday when she ate Goldfish while sitting on the laptop:

Weekend Roundup

My back is doing better, but it still hurts. I hope it gets back to normal soon! On Tuesday Evelyn and Georgia came over and brought a delicious lunch from St. James--so sweet! Marme made us a wonderful dinner. On Wednesday we ventured out and went to the Parenting Center for "Messy Time"--an art class of sorts. Betsy was not interested in painting and just wanted to play in the kitchen as usual. In the afternoon P came home early and I went to Belladonna for a massage--it was awesome. On Thursday B and I went to Walmart to buy much needed groceries. Peter and B have been practicing this really funny "Hellooooooo" and Betsy is getting really good at it. This older man said "Helloooo" to B and it sounded the same way Peter sounds so she responded with a hearty "Helloooooo." Her imitation of the man was perfect and it made him chuckle. In the afternoon we went to playgroup at Ticia's. B had fun eating cookies and playing with Will's Elmo. Thursday night I made up for not cooking for a few days and made a roast and vegetable soup.

On Friday our carpet was installed downstairs--yay!!! It looks great. B and I hung out all day and kept waiting to hit the streets, but it took all day to install it. P had his office luncheon so he didn't get home until late. While I was fixing dinner for B and me B was in the living room watching Sesame Street. She walked into the kitchen and the pantry door was ajar. She reached in and grabbed the bag of Goldfish and walked back to the living room, sat on the laptop (one of her favorite places to sit), and continued watching Sesame. After supper B and I watched Frosty together. I've been trying to get her into all of the Christmas specials, but none of them have impressed her much--she'd rather Elmo any day.

On Saturday morning Attie and I went to Amy's for pedicures. They have an awesome massage chair and that was part of the reason why I wanted to go. It's also really hot outside and my toes weren't looking so good. P, B, and I have been playing downstairs all weekend--we have no furniture and no toys--it was just us rolling around on the carpet and B exploring all of the new space she has to play in! The three of us went shopping for some Christmas gifts in the afternoon. We went to Patois with Dad, Bee, and the sisters and boys for dinner for Attie's birthday. B didn't nap all day and was sort of fussy when we got there. We ordered her some milk and she drank it all then crashed for about 2 hours. I had to wake her up when we were leaving. She missed a delicious meal. Papa Vic brought her 'The Night Before Christmas' and we have been reading it all day today. Bee gave her a reindeer Webkinz--it's so soft and she loves it.

This morning we went to Bluebird--our first time with B. She had a good time and enjoyed staring at everyone. She ate a scrambled egg, some biscuit, and some home fries. Afterwards P and B went to Lowe's to buy more stuff for downstairs. P goes to Lowe's and/or Home Depot every weekend. Today P worked on things downstairs and I cleaned the house because it had gotten pretty messy while I was dealing with my back. Papa Vic brought us a beautiful wreath this evening and got to see B in a really fussy mood. We had a great, relaxing weekend.

B loves knocking on doors, saying 'quack, quack, quack' whenever she sees any type of bird in a book or outside, she is loving this penguin bowling set we gave her for Easter and she holds the penguins and quacks away, she is constantly 'reading' her books out loud, when you ask what a rooster says she says 'cock-a-doodle-oo' or just 'doodle-oo,' and she's not crawling too much anymore--she just wants to walk.

Papa Vic scanned the picture of B and Santa. Enjoy!

Update

I went to see Dr. Morris today and I do not have sciatica. Instead I have been diagnosed with lower back spasms caused by my hips being out of alignament due to my pregnancy. Basically I can't do physical therapy or take muscle relaxers since I'm pregnant so I need to get massages (woo hoo!) and try not to carry B as much as I usually do. I'm starting to feel better this evening.

B has another cute trick--when you ask her what a duck says she says "quack, quack, quack!" She can also point to her toes and head when asked. She's brilliant.

Happy Birthday, Attie!

Attie's birthday was on Sunday, but I have been delayed in posting--as usual. I am having major problems with sciatica and it's hard to walk, sit, stand, etc. I hope this goes away soon.

On Friday night Peter and I had a date--we went to Kyoto then ran into the Vaicius clan at Creole Creamery. Papa Vic and Bee took B to Nacho Mama's for dinner and she had a ball.

On Saturday morning we had beignets and B ate a whole one (after the piece of toast she had at home) then we headed to Clearview to see Santa. We got there and found out that Santa wouldn't be there until 11--it was 930. So we went to Target and walked around until it was time. When B saw Santa she smiled and waved and said "ho ho ho" and was so excited. Well, as soon as I put her on his lap she completely freaked out. She turned bright red and was screaming. My poor baby--and her mean parents couldn't stop laughing. The picture is priceless. I really thought B would love sitting on Santa's lap since she points him out in books, stores, and on TV and seems to love him. I guess all kids have a rough time with Santa at some point. I'll try to scan and post the pic soon. Attie, B, and I had lunch. The pregnant ladies were craving Mexican food so we went to Nacho Mama's. B is becoming a regular there. She loves the food and ate all of my black beans, some chicken, cheese, tortillas, and rice. Peter went to Attie & Beau's to watch the LSU game. B and I hung out and read Christmas books and played. P and I stayed up late watching football and P started getting excited about the possibility of LSU playing in the Nat'l Championship Game. Needless to say, he was ecstatic when it was announced on Sunday that they would.

On Sunday morning B and I went to Marme's for Attie's birthday breakfast. Afterwards Marme, Attie, Katie, and I went Christmas shopping and to lunch. We had a wonderful day! B did some tricks in honor of Aunt Attie--she said "Marme" (she usually just calls Marme "Mmmmmmmm") and "Katie" for the first time (she had said Katie once before but this time it was really clear). Not to be outdone, Baby Bourgeois kicked for the first time. It's such an amazing feeling.

Yesterday we went to Music class and B played at the Parenting Center with her pals. Afterwards we went to PJs. In the afternoon my sciatica was acting up and I fell in the kitchen. Luckily Marme got home early from work and heard me hysterically crying and ran over to help me. Katie came over to help too until Peter got home. Thanks, ladies!!! And thanks, Peter, for taking such good care of me.

I hope it isn't a loooooooooong day. I really wanted to take B to the Parenting Center and go grocery shopping and make P a roast and clean up, but instead I'm stuck lying down on the sofa watching my baby entertain herself--she's doing a good job so far.

I can't get over the fact that B has been sleeping till 7-730 every day. Those 5 am days were killing us. Hopefully we'll have a few months of sleep before the new baby comes.

B has a great trick that I forgot to mention. Peter, Beau, and Peter A. taught her how to say "touchdown" and hold up her arms. It sounds sort of like touchdown, but more like "tadooooow."
